W. Bro. John Waggott

It is with enormous and deep regret that we inform you that W Bro John L. Waggott passed to the Grand Council above on Thursday 18th November 2025. John was an experienced Freemason, who provided quiet but extremely wise counsel, when called upon. He was a member of Londinium Council No.47 and was part of this District's Secretariat, assisting with various tasks, which he dealt with meticulously.

Our thoughts are with Helen, and his children (his 'Wagglett's) at this extremely difficult time.

John was always great company and was a truly outstanding Freemason, but he was an even better man. He lived respected, and died regretted.

Londinium Council Welcomes the DGP

This evening saw R.W. Bro. Scott Cargill paying his first official visit, since being invested as District Grand Prefect, to Londinium Council No.47 along with a large delegation.

The principal work was the Red Cross of Babylon, for which there were 5 candidates and there were stand-out performances by Colin Howard, Matthew Christmas and Stephen Schofield.

The Council also successfully balloted for a joining member.

The Festive Board over a carvery was very lively and Colin Howard was presented with a birthday cake to celebrate his 10 years in Allied Masonry.

All-in-all an excellent evening in excellent company.

Metropolitan Council TI Welcomes Dep. DGP

A splendid evening at Metropolitan T.I. “A” at MMH 86 St James. The Council was duly opened and we were delighted to welcome our official guest W. Bro. Peter Warner, Dep. District Grand Prefect and of course, we had our own R.W. Bro. Scott Cargill District Grand Prefect present as a member of the Council.

The Degree of St. Lawrence the Martyr was then conducted to welcome Bro. Duncan McGhee into the Order. The Council was then opened the Degree of Kinght of Constantinople which was conferred on Duncan along with several other members and guests.

All present agreed the work was carried out in an exemplary manner and to a high standard.

The council then welcomed V.W. Bro. Ian Clarke, President of the MBF, who after giving a short explanation on the work of the MBF presented the Council with a MBF Grand Master's Keystone jewel.

There followed a most convivial festive board with good food, good wine and even better fellowship.

New District Grand Prefect and District Annual Meeting

On Saturday 15 November,  V.W. Bro. Scott Cargill P.G.Reg. was installed as our new District Grand Prefect, in succession to R.W. Bro. Colin Woodcock MBE who last month was made Deputy Grand Master.

The installation was conducted by M.W. Bro. Thomas Firth Jackson and his team of Grand Officers in front of an audience consisting of 1 Deputy Grand Master, 2 Past Deputy Grand Masters, 1 President of the Executive Committee, 11 District Grand Prefects and approximately 140 other brethren from across the country and London. It was certainly a packed Grand Temple!

Following the installation, R.W. Bro. Scott Cargill then proceeded to invest his Deputy - W. Bro. Peter Warner P.G.J.D. - an Allied mason known to many brethren up and down the country.

Once the formal business of the investitures was completed, the Grand Master then proceeded to bestow a field first appointment (P.G.St.B.) to W. Bro. David Ashbolt of the Council of Four Kings for his sterling work selling charity breast jewels which was a complete surprise for David! The Grand team then retired for canapes and drinks while R.W. Bro. Scott Cargill concluded the rest of his District meeting in a record 25 minutes.

Our new District Grand Prefect's first address at the Annual Meeting can be read here

After the meeting there was time for pre-luncheon drinks before 110 brethren sat down to dine.

The new District Grand Prefect presented the Grand Master, the GDC (R.W. Bro. Glyn Goddard) and the A.G.Sec. (W.Bro. Michael Caseman-Jones) with gifts and in his response to the toast by the Grand Master Scott paid tribute to Colin for his 15 years of service to London Allied Masonry.

Following the meal, the brethren either retired to the bar or headed home - and judging by the smiles on everyone's faces the day had been thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The District Team can be found here.
